Midlands Highway
Sunday was Mothers Day and we joined Gaye and Joe for the drive 140 klm (1 ¾ hr) to Campbell Town, north along the Midlands Highway. Last time we travelled that way was back at the beginning of February. Where did that time go! But in that time the rain that they have received has made the scenery very picturesque, green and lush. We visited the ‘Bottom Pub’, now the only pub left in Campbell Town for lunch with Alan’s Mum and 4 of his 5 sisters, a great Roast Dinner with delicious desserts for Mothers Day.
A multicultural day was planned for Monday, as Maa Malmi had a HUGE Turkey that was too large for their oven so we cooked it in our oven. Suzan had prepared it for 24hrs prior by soaking it in a Herb and garlic infused Brine. I had asked them if they have had Pavlova! A what??? Was the reply! So I dug out my Mixer and baked one, topped it with fresh fruit salad and whipped cream. Although we were all chockers after the turkey we did manage to make quite a hole in it!
Our plan was to leave the Yacht Club Thursday after our welcome night as new members of RYCT. But as you can see from the weather forecast below it was less than desirable!!
SOUTHEAST COAST, Tasman Is to South East Cape:

Thursday until midnight:
West to southwest winds 25 to 35 knots, reaching 40 knots offshore at first, easing to 20 to 30 knots during the afternoon and tending general westerly. Winds tending northwesterly in the evening at similar speeds, though easing briefly at first. Seas 4 to 5 metres abating for a period in the afternoon. West to southwest swell rising to 4 to 5 metres, lower inshore.
Friday:
West to northwest winds 30 to 40 knots, 45 knots at times offshore in the south. Seas 4 to 6 metres, reaching to 7 metres offshore. Southwest swell rising to 5 to 6 metres, lower inshore.
Saturday:
Westerly winds 30 to 40 knots, 45 knots offshore to the south, shifting southwesterly at 35 to 45 knots during the early morning, 50 knots initially about open waters. Winds then easing to 25 to 35 knots in the evening. Seas 5 to 7 metres in open waters. Southwest swell 6 to 8 metres.
So we have stayed safely tied to the marina and the fishing plans have been put on hold until the weather abates.
Today, Friday we drove to Tunbridge (1hr 10min north on the Midlands Hwy) to see the newly born lambs and piglets at Beth and Bills farm. We were treated to a Roast Lamb and Veg lunch with Apple Crumble for dessert. The air temperature has dropped noticeably today with the strong winds blowing off the mountains. 125klm winds were reported at Mt Wellington this morning.
On arrival back into Hobart we realised that the wind and rain had persisted all day!
