Valentines Day and what a perfect day, sun was shining and it was one of the few warm, sunny ones that we have had. The crew from Skie and us decided to walk to the lookout at Wineglass Bay. We took the tenders in and tied to the wharf at the resort, it was underneath the wharf that we were able to watch a Fairy Penguin chase hundreds of baitfish in the crystal clear shallow water. We are both amazed at the clarity of the water here! Once we walked through the resort and up to the Freycinet National Park Parking area it was another 1 1/2 hours walk to the lookout, and our legs had sure been exercised by the time we returned. The view from the lookout was spectacular and we were fortunate that the day was so perfect. On the way back we passed Honeymoon Bay and on the waters edge was a wedding in progress! The scenery would rival the Whitsundays’! We had to speed up our return walk to be able to up anchor and head around to Passage Beach on the southern end of Bryans Beach for the Fleet BBQ. Once ashore we met a lot of the other crews! Not only have we been referred to as the Gin Palace 3
, but we were also the only ones that took tables and chairs with us! By 9pm it was beginning to get dark and the Mossies came out in force so everyone made a quick exit back to the safety of their boats. T’was another overcast morning as we set off at 9.30am to meander north along the coast enabling us time to stop for a fish. At 2pm Alan had the lines all ready to go! He set up my Grandfathers fishing rod, circa 1930’s that Dad gave us before we left the lake. After 5 minutes we had pulled in 2 HUGE squid, then Alan pulled in a large Common Gurnard Perch (pretty orange fish with huge spikes, poisenious) plus we pulled in another 7 large squid. I am going to try and cook the tentacles tonight! Chilli and Garlic Squid tentacles???? As we proceed north the wind has increased to 20knts from the south and the seas have increased, we will be travelling through the night to arrive at Clarke Island at the flood tide tomorrow.
